## Key takeaways

- The core turns while the pin flies: 8 degrees on level 1, up to 27 degrees on the fastest levels.
- Shooting at the gap you can see cleared 18 of 60 levels; aiming ahead of the spin cleared all 60.
- Random or rhythmic tapping clears 97% of the first ten levels and none of the last ten.
- The last pins decide a level: for the last pin of level 60 only 36% of the core is still free.

**To beat Coreball, do not shoot at the gap under the launcher. Shoot at the gap that will be there when your pin arrives.** The core keeps turning while the pin flies, up to 27 degrees on the fastest levels. When we simulated all 60 levels of our own [Coreball](https://yesthisgame.com/coreball/), a player who fired at the gap they could see cleared 18 of them. A player who aimed ahead cleared all 60.

## How Coreball works

Coreball is a one-tap pin game. A round core spins in the middle of the screen and you have a stack of pins below it. Each tap shoots one pin straight up into the core, where it sticks and turns with it. If a new pin touches a pin that is already there, the level fails and starts again. Place every pin and the level is cleared.

- A pin needs 0.13 seconds to reach the core.
- Two pins collide when they are less than 6 degrees apart on the core.
- From level 11 on, some grey pins are already stuck to the core when the level starts.
- The core does not always turn at one speed. Later levels speed up and slow down, reverse direction, or stop for a moment.

Our version has 60 fixed levels, from 4 pins on a slow core up to 21 pins on a core turning 188 degrees a second.

## What we measured

Because the rules are fixed, we could play every level with three simulated players and compare them:

- **Random:** taps at random moments, 200 attempts per level.
- **Gap at the bottom:** taps only when the spot right under the launcher is free at that moment.
- **Aim ahead:** taps only when the spot will be free 0.13 seconds later, when the pin arrives.

![Bar chart: Coreball levels cleared by three ways of timing the tap. Levels 1-10: random 97%, gap at the bottom 100%, aim ahead 100%. Levels 51-60: random 0%, gap at the bottom 0%, aim ahead 100%](https://yesthisgame.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/10/coreball-tapping-strategy-chart.png)
*Share of Coreball levels cleared without a miss by each way of timing the tap, levels 1 to 60.*

The first ten levels forgive everything: even random tapping clears 97% of attempts. From level 11 the picture changes fast. Random tapping drops to 44%, then 16%, then 2%, and on the last ten levels it never cleared one. Waiting for a gap at the bottom is hardly better, because by the time the pin arrives that gap has moved on. Aiming ahead cleared every level.

## 7 Coreball tips that work

### 1. Aim ahead of the spin

This is the whole game. While your pin flies, the core turns by its speed times 0.13 seconds. On level 1 that is 8 degrees, about the width of one gap. On the fastest levels it is 22 to 27 degrees, about four pin widths. Look a little upstream, at the part of the core that is about to arrive at the bottom, and tap when an empty stretch is just before the launcher.

*How far the core turns while one pin flies*

| Levels | Core speed | Turn during the flight |
| --- | --- | --- |
| 1 to 10 | 63–96°/s | 8–12° |
| 11 to 20 | 88–114°/s | 11–15° |
| 21 to 35 | 110–156°/s | 14–20° |
| 36 to 50 | 141–187°/s | 18–24° |
| 51 to 60 | 172–209°/s | 22–27° |

### 2. Do not tap in a rhythm

Tapping at a steady beat feels natural, but the beat has nothing to do with where the gaps are, so the core treats it like random tapping. Our random tapper cleared 28% of its attempts over all 60 levels and none on the last ten. Wait for the opening each time, even if it takes a second.

### 3. The last pins are the hard ones

Every pin you place takes space away from the next one. When the first pin of level 60 flies, 83% of the core is still free. For the last pin only 36% is. On average over all levels, the free part of the core shrinks from 92% for the first pin to 62% for the last. Take your time near the end of a level; that is where nearly every miss happens.

### 4. Put pins into the middle of big gaps

A pin dropped right next to another one wastes the space on both sides of a narrow gap. A pin in the middle of the widest gap leaves two medium gaps behind it, and medium gaps are the ones you can still hit later. Keeping the pins spread out is how you keep the last shots easy.

### 5. On stop-and-go levels, shoot during the stop

Some levels pause the core for about a quarter of each cycle. While it is still, there is nothing to lead: the gap under the launcher is the gap the pin will hit. Wait for the pause and shoot then.

### 6. On reversing levels, watch the turn

On reversing levels the core turns one way for a while, slows, and turns back for about half as long. The danger is the moment of the turn, when your lead is suddenly in the wrong direction. Shoot during a steady stretch, not while it is slowing down.

### 7. On swelling levels, shoot when it is slow

Swelling levels speed up and slow down smoothly, between 40% and 100% of their top speed. At the slow end the core turns less than half as far during the flight, so your aim can be less exact.

## How the 60 levels get harder

*Coreball levels on Yes This Game*

| Levels | Pins to shoot | Pins already on the core | Spin patterns |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| 1 to 10 | 4–6 | 0 | Steady |
| 11 to 20 | 6–8 | 1 | Steady, reversing |
| 21 to 35 | 9–11 | 2–3 | Swelling, reversing, steady |
| 36 to 50 | 12–14 | 3–4 | Stop-and-go, reversing, swelling |
| 51 to 60 | 14–16 | 5 | Wild (reversing and swelling at once), stop-and-go, reversing |

Odd and even levels spin in opposite directions, so the side you have to look at changes from one level to the next. That catches many players on the first try of a new level.

## Frequently asked questions

### How do you play Coreball?

Tap to shoot a pin into the spinning core. Every pin sticks and turns with the core. Place all your pins without touching one that is already there.

### Why do my pins hit others when the gap looked free?

The core keeps turning during the 0.13 seconds a pin needs to arrive. Aim at the part of the core that is about to reach the bottom, not at the bottom itself.

### How many levels does Coreball have?

Our version on Yes This Game has 60 fixed levels, from 4 pins on a slow core to 21 pins on a core turning 188 degrees a second.

### Is there a pattern to Coreball levels?

Yes. Each level uses one spin pattern: steady, reversing, swelling, stop-and-go or a mix of reversing and swelling. Odd and even levels spin in opposite directions.

### Can I play Coreball on a phone?

Yes. It is a one-tap game and works the same on phones, tablets and computers. On a computer you can also use the space bar.
