**Mortal Kombat II** is the sequel that made Mortal Kombat a legend. Shao Kahn, the emperor of Outworld, has called a new tournament, and the Earth's warriors must win it on his own ground. The cast grows to 12 fighters, the special moves are faster, and the finishing moves now include friendships and babalities. This is the 1994 Sega Mega Drive (Genesis) version, and it plays right here in your browser with no download.

## How to play

1. Press **Play** under the title picture, then **Start** (Enter) twice.
2. Pick your fighter with the arrow keys and press low punch (**Z** ).
3. Win two rounds against each opponent. The last fights are against Kintaro and Shao Kahn.
4. When the screen says FINISH HIM or FINISH HER, you have a moment to perform a finishing move.

## Controls

The game uses the six-button Mega Drive pad, laid out like the arcade buttons.

**Computer:** arrow keys move, jump and crouch. Top row: **A** high punch, **S** block, **D** high kick. Bottom row: **Z** low punch, **X** block, **C** low kick. Enter is Start and pauses. Move the mouse over the game to show the bar with pause, restart, sound, save state, load state and full screen buttons.

**Phone and tablet:** the pad under the game has HP, BL (block) and HK on the top row, LP, BL and LK below, and Start.

A USB or Bluetooth gamepad also works.

## Cheats

Press the **magic wand** button next to the full screen button above the game. A small panel opens over the game, and the game waits until you close it.

- **Unlimited energy:** your energy bar stays full.
- **Weak opponent:** your opponent's bar is empty, so your next hit wins the round.
- **Infinite time:** the round timer stays at 99.

Reloading the page turns the cheats off again.

## A few special moves

Directions are written for a fighter facing right: forward is right, back is left.

- **Liu Kang, fireball:** forward, forward, high punch.
- **Scorpion, spear:** back, back, low punch.
- **Sub-Zero, ice blast:** down, forward, low punch.
- **Johnny Cage, low green bolt:** back, down, forward, low punch.

## About Mortal Kombat II

Midway released Mortal Kombat II in arcades in 1993, and Acclaim brought it to home systems on 9 September 1994, a launch fans still call Mortal Friday. The Mega Drive version, developed by Probe Software, kept all the blood and fatalities without a code.
