**Streets of Rage 2** is one of the best beat 'em ups ever made. A year after the first game, the crime boss Mr. X is back and has kidnapped Adam Hunter. His friends Axel and Blaze, his little brother Skate and the wrestler Max take to the streets to get him back. You walk from left to right through the city, fight waves of punks, bikers, ninjas and boxers, pick up pipes, knives and swords, and beat the boss at the end of every stage. This is the 1992 Sega Mega Drive (Genesis) game, and it plays right here in your browser with no download.

## How to play

1. Press **Play** under the title picture, then **Start** (Enter) on the title screen.
2. Choose **1 PLAYER** and press Start, then pick your fighter with left and right and press Start again.
3. Walk with the arrow keys, attack with **X** and jump with **C** . Keep pressing X for a combo.
4. Walk into an enemy to grab him, then press X to knee or throw.
5. Press **Z** for a special move that hits everyone around you. It costs a little energy if it hits.
6. Break barrels and phone boxes to find apples and roast chicken that refill your energy.

## Controls

**Computer:** arrow keys walk, X attacks, C jumps, Z is the special move, forward + Z is the strong special, Enter is Start and pauses. Move the mouse over the game to show the bar with pause, restart, sound, save state, load state and full screen buttons.

**Phone and tablet:** the three-button pad appears under the game: the cross, **B** to attack, **C** to jump, **A** for the special move, and **Start** .

A USB or Bluetooth gamepad also works.

## Cheats

Press the **magic wand** button next to the full screen button above the game. A small panel opens over the game, and the game waits until you close it.

- **Unlimited lives:** you keep three lives.
- **Unlimited energy:** your energy bar stays full.
- **Invincible:** enemies can't hurt you.
- **Infinite time:** the stage clock stays at 99.

Reloading the page turns the cheats off again.

## The four fighters

- **Axel Stone:** the all-rounder, with a strong uppercut combo and the flaming Grand Upper special.
- **Blaze Fielding:** fast and agile, with good jumps and a fireball special.
- **Max Thunder:** a slow but very powerful wrestler with big throws.
- **Eddie "Skate" Hunter:** Adam's little brother, the fastest fighter, who can dash and grind on roller skates.

## About Streets of Rage 2

Sega released Streets of Rage 2 (Bare Knuckle II in Japan) for the Mega Drive at the end of 1992. It was made by Ancient with several partner studios, and Yuzo Koshiro's club-style soundtrack is still celebrated today. The game kept Axel and Blaze from the first Streets of Rage and added Max and Skate.
