Sunset Riders

Sunset Riders is a Wild West run-and-gun from Konami. Four bounty hunters ride into town to collect the rewards on the most wanted outlaws of the frontier. You run, jump and shoot through dusty streets, saloon balconies, rooftops, a moving train and a stampede, and every stage ends with a showdown against the outlaw on the wanted poster. This is the 1991 arcade version, and it plays right here in your browser with no download.

How to play

1. Press Play under the title picture and wait a moment while the arcade machine starts.
2. Press Coin (V on a keyboard) to add a credit, then Start (Enter). You play as Steve.
3. Move with the arrow keys and shoot with Z. Hold a direction while shooting to aim, even diagonally.
4. Jump with X. Press down and jump to slide under bullets, and press up and jump to climb onto balconies and roofs.
5. Pick up the sheriff badges for better guns, and walk into the doors that open for a bonus.
6. Beat the outlaw at the end of the stage to collect his bounty.

Controls

Computer: arrow keys move and aim, Z shoots, X jumps, V adds a coin and Enter is Start. Move the mouse over the game to show the bar with pause, restart, sound, save state, load state and full screen buttons.

Phone and tablet: the pad under the game has the cross, A to shoot, B to jump, and Coin and Start buttons.

A USB or Bluetooth gamepad also works.

Cheats

Press the magic wand button next to the full screen button above the game. A small panel opens over the game, and the game waits until you close it. The cheats switch on a few seconds after the machine has started.

• Unlimited lives: you never run out of lives.
• Invincible: bullets, knives and dynamite can’t hurt you.

Reloading the page turns the cheats off again.

Power-ups

• Silver badge: a second gun, so you fire two shots at once.
• Gold badge: fully automatic fire. Both badges together make the strongest shooter.
• One hit makes you lose a life and your badges, so stay out of the line of fire.

About Sunset Riders

Konami released Sunset Riders in arcades in 1991. It has four playable cowboys: Steve and Billy with revolvers, Bob with a rifle and Cormano with a shotgun. The arcade machine lets up to four friends play together, and the game is famous for its big, colourful sprites and its funny wanted posters.
