About Track & Field (NES)
Track & Field is Konami’s athletics game for the NES: eight events, a qualifying mark for each, and a run button you tap as fast as you can. Sprint the 100 metres, clear the hurdles, throw the javelin, shoot clay targets and fly over the high jump bar. This copy is Track & Field in Barcelona, the 1992 European release of the same game with a new title screen, and it plays right here in your browser with no download.
More classic NES games: Excitebike, Circus Charlie and Super Mario Bros.
How to play
- Press Play under the title picture. When the title shows, press Start (Enter) for 1 Player A, then Start again on the list of events.
- Running events: wait for the start, then tap X (A) as fast as you can. Pressing before the start is a false start.
- Jumps and throws: build up speed with X, then press Z (B) at the line to jump or throw.
- Beat the qualifying time or distance shown at the top (QUALIFY) to go on to the next event. Miss it and you lose one of your chances.
- The eight events: 100 metre dash, long jump, 110 metre hurdles, javelin throw, skeet shooting, triple jump, archery and high jump.
Controls
Computer: arrow keys move, Z jumps and throws, X runs (tap it fast), Enter is Start and pauses. Move the mouse over the game to show the bar with pause, restart, sound, save state, load state and full screen buttons.
Phone and tablet: the NES pad appears under the game: the cross, B (jumps and throws), A (runs (tap it fast)) and Start.
A USB or Bluetooth gamepad also works.
Cheats
Press the magic wand button next to the full screen button above the game. A small panel opens over the game, and the game waits until you close it.
- Auto run: your athlete runs at top speed without tapping the run button.
Reloading the page turns the cheats off again.
About Track & Field
Konami’s Track & Field began in arcades in 1983 (Hyper Olympic in Japan). The NES game came out in North America in 1987 and mixes events from Hyper Olympic and its sequel Hyper Sports. In 1992, the year of the Barcelona Olympics, it came out again in Europe as Track & Field in Barcelona, with only the title screen changed.
