Dunkhead

Dunkhead is a big-head basketball game that runs in your browser. You pick a team, then play a timed match against the computer or against a friend on the same keyboard. Shoot at the hoop, dash past defenders, steal the ball and block shots.

How to play

1. Click 1 Player for Tournament, Random Match or Training, 2 Players for a match on one keyboard, or Quick Match.
2. Choose a team with the arrows. Every team shows three players, each with a special ability such as Fast Break, Mega Dunk or Defence.
3. Press Play. The match has a countdown timer at the top of the screen and the score next to the two team emblems.
4. Use X to shoot when you have the ball and to steal when you do not. Press the right arrow twice to dash.
5. Click the question mark during a match to open the how-to-play screen at any time.

What you see on screen

• Scoreboard: two team emblems with the score, and the time left below them.
• Help, pause and sound buttons: top right.
• Supershot icon: top left, with the key to press (Z for player 1, K for player 2).
• Result screen: the final score, such as 0 : 10, and a Next arrow.

The how-to-play screen also lists these moves with player 1’s keys: shot (X), pump (down arrow), dash (right arrow twice), steal (X) and block (down arrow).

Tips

• Do not stand still. In our test the computer scored 10 points while we pressed nothing for the whole match.
• Learn the dash early: press the right arrow twice to get past a defender.
• Pick a team by its three abilities, not only its emblem.

Frequently asked questions

How do you play Dunkhead with two players?

Click 2 Players, pick a team for each side and press Play. Player 1 uses the arrow keys with Z and X, and player 2 uses W, A, S and D with K and L.

What are the controls?

Move with the arrow keys (or W, A, S, D), shoot or steal with X (or L), press the right arrow twice to dash and use Z (or K) for the supershot.

What game modes are there?

The menu offers 1 Player (Tournament, Random Match and Training), 2 Players, Quick Match and Credits.

How long is a match?

It is timed. In our tests the timer counted down from about 60 seconds.

Is Dunkhead free?

Yes. It is free to play in your browser on Yes This Game, with no download and no sign-up.

Can I play it on a phone?

Yes, held sideways. In our phone test the menu showed 1 Player, Quick Match and Credits (2 Players was not offered), and a match showed on-screen arrow and action buttons. Upright, the game asks you to turn the phone.
