Metal Slug 2

Metal Slug 2 is the second run and gun in SNK’s Metal Slug series, and the one that added the two most popular soldiers of the series, Eri and Fio. General Morden is back, and this time he is not alone. Fight through six missions in deserts, Arabian towns, trains and snowy mountains, jump into vehicles, free the bearded prisoners for weapons, and watch out for the mummies that turn you into one. It is the 1998 Neo Geo arcade game, and it plays right here in your browser with no download.

How to play

1. Press Play under the title picture and wait a few seconds while the Neo Geo machine starts up.
2. Press Coin (V on a keyboard) to add a credit, then Start (Enter).
3. Pick Marco, Tarma, Eri or Fio. They play the same way.
4. Shoot with Z, jump with X and throw grenades with C. Press up or down while shooting to aim.
5. Free the tied-up prisoners: they drop weapons like the heavy machine gun (H), the rocket launcher (R), the flame shot (F) and the shotgun (S), and points.
6. Climb into a vehicle with a jump. Its cannon fires with the grenade button and it takes a few hits before it breaks.
7. One hit costs a life, unless you are in a vehicle.

Controls

Computer: arrow keys move, Z shoots, X jumps, C throws a grenade, V adds a coin and Enter is Start. Move the mouse over the game to show the bar with pause, restart, sound, save state, load state and full screen buttons.

Phone and tablet: the arcade pad appears under the game: the stick, A (shoot), B (jump), C (grenade), Coin and Start.

A USB or Bluetooth gamepad also works.

Cheats

Press the magic wand button next to the full screen button above the game. A small panel opens over the game, and the game waits until you close it. The cheats switch on a few seconds after the machine has started.

• Unlimited lives: you never run out of lives.
• Unlimited bombs: your grenades never run out.
• Invincible: bullets and enemies can’t hurt you.
• Infinite time: the mission clock never runs out.

Reloading the page turns the cheats off again.

About Metal Slug 2

SNK released Metal Slug 2: Super Vehicle-001/II for the Neo Geo arcade system in 1998, two years after the first game. Besides Eri and Fio, it brought the transformations (a hit from a mummy’s breath turns you into a slow mummy, and eating a lot of food makes your soldier fat) and the first aliens of the series. The game had a lot of slowdown when the screen was busy, and in 1999 SNK released Metal Slug X, a reworked version with new enemies and weapons that runs much more smoothly.
