Knights of the Round

Knights of the Round is Capcom’s King Arthur beat ’em up. Young Arthur has drawn Excalibur from the stone, and with Lancelot and Perceval he rides out against the evil king Garibaldi and his army. As you collect treasure and score points, your knight levels up and his armor and weapon grow stronger. This is the 1991 Capcom arcade game, and it plays right here in your browser with no download.

How to play

1. Press Play under the title picture and wait a moment while the arcade machine starts.
2. Press Coin (V on a keyboard) to add a credit, then Start (Enter).
3. Pick Arthur, Lancelot or Perceval and press attack.
4. Walk with the arrow keys, attack with Z and jump with X. Keep pressing Z for a combo.
5. Press Z and X together for a special attack that clears the enemies around you. It costs a little energy.
6. Jump onto a horse to ride it into battle. Collect gold, jewels and food from the chests and barrels.
7. On horseback, tap forward twice to make the horse stomp on the enemies. Keep an eye on the timer at the top.

Controls

Computer: arrow keys walk, Z attacks, X jumps, Z + X is the special attack, V adds a coin and Enter is Start. Move the mouse over the game to show the bar with pause, restart, sound, save state, load state and full screen buttons.

Phone and tablet: the pad under the game has the cross, A to attack, B to jump, and Coin and Start buttons.

A USB or Bluetooth gamepad also works.

Cheats

Press the magic wand button next to the full screen button above the game. A small panel opens over the game, and the game waits until you close it. The cheats switch on a few seconds after the machine has started.

• Unlimited lives: you never run out of lives.
• Unlimited energy: your energy bar stays full.
• Invincible: enemies can’t hurt you.
• Infinite time: the stage timer never runs out.

Reloading the page turns the cheats off again.

The three knights

• Arthur: the future king with Excalibur, balanced in speed and power and strongest on horseback.
• Lancelot: the fastest knight, with a sabre and a jumping kick, but less strong.
• Perceval: the giant with the battle-axe and the Giant Swing throw, slow but very strong.

About Knights of the Round

Capcom released Knights of the Round in arcades in 1991. It mixed the brawler with role-playing ideas: the level-up system changes each knight’s look and strength as the quest goes on, through seven stages, each with its own boss.
