Coloring Book

Coloring Book is a free online coloring game for your browser. Choose one of 16 pictures, from a cupcake, an ice cream cone and a butterfly to a cat, a castle, a hot air balloon and two mandalas, then fill each area with a tap or paint it with a brush that never goes over the lines. Add dots, stripes, checks, hearts, glitter or a soft gradient, place stickers on top, and save your finished picture as a PNG. When you want a calm challenge, switch to By number: twelve color-by-number pictures show a number in every area, and you earn up to three stars for coloring them without mistakes.

How to play

1. Open Pictures and tap the picture you want to color. Every picture keeps its own colors, so you can switch and come back later.
2. On the Fill tab, pick one of 30 colors and tap an area of the picture to fill it. Choose a pattern first if you like: dots, stripes, checks, hearts, glitter or a gradient.
3. On the Brush tab, pick a thin, medium or thick brush and draw. The brush only paints inside the area where you started, so you can scribble freely and still stay inside the lines.
4. On the Stickers tab, tap the picture to add hearts, stars, flowers, butterflies, moons, gems, bows, cherries or sparkles.
5. Use the round buttons on the picture: the magic wand colors every area in a random palette, the arrow undoes your last step and the download button saves a PNG.

Color by number: 12 pictures

Press By number to open twelve color-by-number pictures, from an easy cupcake to a detailed mandala. Every area shows a number and the palette below the picture shows which color each number means. Pick a number and tap its areas, or swipe across several of them at once. The areas of the chosen number are lightly striped so they are easy to find, and Hint circles any you have missed. When a color is complete its button shows a tick and the next color is chosen for you.

A picture is finished when every numbered area is colored. Tapping an area with the wrong number counts as a mistake: up to two mistakes earn three stars, up to six earn two, and every finished picture earns at least one star and opens the next. Swiping over the wrong areas never counts as a mistake.

Controls

Phone and tablet: tap a color, then tap an area to fill it or draw with your finger on the Brush tab. Coloring on the picture does not scroll the page.

Computer: click a color and click an area, or drag with the mouse to paint. Keyboard: left and right arrows change the color (or the number in By number mode), up and down arrows change the tab, R uses magic colors, Z undoes, S saves the picture and H shows a hint in By number mode.

Coloring ideas to try

• Sunset sky: fill the background of the hot air balloon with the gradient pattern in orange, then color each balloon panel in a different shade.
• Party cupcake: polka dots on the wrapper, a pink frosting and a red cherry, with a few heart stickers around it.
• Night owl: navy sky, a pale yellow moon, glitter on the stars and warm browns on the owl.
• Calm mandala: pick two or three colors from the same family and alternate them from the outside in.
• Rainbow fish: give every stripe and fin of the fish its own color and use the stripes pattern on the sand.
