About Avatar Maker

Avatar Maker is a free online tool for making a cartoon avatar of yourself, a friend or a character you invent. Pick a skin tone, a hairstyle and its colour, the eyes, brows and mouth, then add a beard, clothes, glasses, a hat and a background. The big preview changes the moment you tap a choice. When you like the result, save it as a 1024 × 1024 PNG and use it as a profile picture, a game avatar or a chat icon.

How to make your avatar

  1. Choose a tab at the top: Skin, Hair, Eyes, Brows, Mouth, Beard, Top, Glasses, Hat, Extras or Background.
  2. Tap one of the small pictures under the tabs. Each picture shows your own avatar with that option, so you see the result before you pick it.
  3. For hair, clothes, hats and backgrounds, pick a colour from the round swatches below the pictures.
  4. Not sure where to start? Press Random for a new face, then change only the parts you do not like.
  5. Changed your mind? Undo steps back through your last changes.
  6. Press Save PNG to download the picture. On phones that support it, Share sends the picture straight to an app.

What you can change

  • Skin: 8 skin tones, from very light to very dark.
  • Hair: 11 styles (buzz cut, short, side part, spiky, long, bob, ponytail, curly, bun, wavy and mohawk) in 12 colours.
  • Face: 6 eye shapes including a wink, 6 brow shapes, 6 mouths and 5 beard options from stubble to a full beard.
  • Top: a T-shirt, a V-neck, a hoodie, a shirt with a collar, a striped top or a jacket, each in 12 colours.
  • Accessories: round, square, cat-eye glasses or sunglasses; a beanie, cap, headphones, fedora or bandana in 12 colours; earrings, freckles or blush.
  • Background: plain, gradient, dots, stripes, sun rays or a ring, in 10 soft colours.

Together that makes more than a trillion different avatars, so the one you build is very likely yours alone.

Using your avatar

The saved file is a square PNG, 1024 pixels on each side. Square pictures fit the round frames that most social networks, chat apps and gaming platforms use for profile photos: the face sits in the middle, so nothing important is cut off when the app crops it into a circle. The background is part of the picture, which keeps the avatar easy to see on light and dark screens.

Your avatar is drawn in your browser. Nothing is uploaded to a server and you do not need an account. The last avatar you made is kept on this device, so it is still there when you come back.

Controls

Phone and tablet: tap a tab, a picture or a colour. The layout fits portrait and landscape screens.

Computer: click with the mouse, or use the keyboard: the up and down arrows change the tab, the left and right arrows change the style, C changes the colour, R makes a random avatar, Z undoes and S saves the PNG.

Tips for a good avatar

  • Start with the skin tone and hair: they change the look the most. Glasses and hats come last.
  • For a profile picture, choose a background colour that is different from the top, so the outline stands out when the picture is small.
  • A plain or gradient background looks cleaner at small sizes than stripes or dots.
  • Making avatars for a team or a class? Keep the same background for everyone and change the rest.

Frequently asked questions

Is Avatar Maker free?

Yes. It is free to use in your browser on Yes This Game, with no download and no sign-up.

Can I use the avatar as my profile picture?

Yes. Save the PNG and upload it wherever you would upload a photo of yourself. The square format suits most profile picture frames.

Does it work on a phone?

Yes. It works on phones, tablets and computers, in portrait and landscape.

Are my pictures uploaded anywhere?

No. The avatar is drawn and saved on your own device. Only you decide where the picture goes.

Why is there no Share button on my computer?

The Share button appears only when your browser can share image files. If you do not see it, use Save PNG and share the file from your downloads.
